Lazy Day
Haven't done much at all today. The boys went back to school so it was quite quiet during the day. Jordan and Kieran didn't get up until 10.15, lazy little tikes lol.The baby was really playing up today and just wouldn't sleep so consequently he got more and more overtired and more and more cranky.I got two DVD's from Play.com today - When Harry Met Sally and Will and Grace: 1st four episodes. Also ordered the Monty Python movie compelation - good price on it.Phoned Murder One to ask about Feb's Romantic Times but it still wasnt in - due to the Xmas hols I suppose. Will phone again next week - also want to order Ian Rankin's Let it Bleed. At long last AOL has found out that we have a fault on our BT line which is probably why we cant get Broadband to download. Hopefully it will be sorted out shortly.Emma had her surgery this afternoon and all went well. She is in some pain but hopefully the morphine will sort that out. Mind you when they get her out of bed tomorrow she will be very uncomfortable and in some pain. Surgery took about 2hrs 30mins. Stephen said she was very sleepy and didn't want him to leave but I think that was probably the anasthetic talking.Well work all day tomorrow and Thursday so had better get to bed for a 5.15am get up.I Love Boy's Hall
Haven't been on lately
Haven't been on lately as the PC decided to pack up and we couldn't get onto the internet. This thing needs throwing out of the window! Well, I am trying to remember what has gone on over the past few days.At long last the snow has all gone and all, weatherwise, is back to normality. Thank God! I had two days off after my nights with nothing much happening at all. I worked a night on New Year's Eve which wasn't to bad. As is usual our flexi third didn't turn up which tends to piss you off but I have to say it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. This was due to the fact that 8 of our beds were empty due to the Norovirus and the ward being closed. That didn't stop 2 or 3 of the remaining patients throwing up and having the squirts though which kept us going through the night, clearing up poo and vomit. The girl's from M1 asked us to join them at midnight for a glass of Asti which we were quite glad of and by the morning I was glad to go home.Sunday was spent dozing most of the day trying to make up for a bit of sleep that I had missed during the night.Today I haven't really done much either. Was on the PC for a little while. Doug upgraded the PC from ME to XP but the stupid thing still wont let us download Broadband and no one can figure out why this is happening. AOL is a joke - we have been trying since October to reinstate Broadband and they are as useless as a chocolate fireguard. They just keep handing us from one person to the next and no-one seems to know what the other is doing.Claire went and picked up Jordan and Kieran today. Em goes into hospital tomorrow and is understandably quite nervous about the whole thing. We will phone in the afternoon to see how the surgery went.Xmas decs. came down today and the place is back to normal - or as normal as it usually is.Spoke to Angela at work as she is working today and tomorrow and she was on yesterday, poor girl.I have also started a new book which I am halfway through. It is 'The Apprentice'' by Tess Gerritsen. This is the second in the series and the first book 'The Surgeon' was really good and so far so is this one. Here is the back cover blurb:'The Surgeon has been locked up for a year but his chilling legacy still haunts the city, and especially Boston homicide detective Jane Rizzoli. For now a new killer is at work and Rizzoli senses something horrifyingly familiar about this murderer's modus operandi. Grim coincidence? Or more terrifying still, could two monsters have somehow made contact? It's when the FBI starts taking an interest in the investigation that Rizzoli begins to wonder just what makes this case so different, so dangerous that the Feds feel the need to get involved. But then the unthinkable happens: the Surgeon escapes. And suddenly there are two brilliant, twisted killers on the loose - master and apprentice, united in their hunt for the most challenging prey of all: the very woman who is hunting them....'I Love Boy's Hall
Sleep Day
Well my worst fears came true and I had to drive to work in the white stuff. It had settled quite well by the time I left for work so with teeth gritted I set out. By the time I made the bypass it was like a blizzard and driving conditions were atrocious. Made it into work only to find I was working with Michelle R. (what a bonus). Zoe arrived late due to her living out in the sticks. We didn't have to bad a night but the ward is closed due to the Norovirus and we added 5 more to the list during the night due to either vomiting or the squits. All 3 of us were dreading driving home as it had snowed heavily during the night and of course temps were below freezing.Conditions driving home were treacherous. I think I drove home all the way between 10 and 20 mph. The roads were really icy and from Asda's roundabout to home was just sheet ice. Michelle, bless her heart, followed me all the way home to make sure I got home alright.Came in, had breakfast and went to bed - slept quite well and am now up and about to get ready to go to work again and have the whole horrible journey once more.I Love Boy's Hall
Freezing
I am sitting here freezing my butt off - woke up this morning to find that the world had turned white and that awful four-letter word -SNOW - had happened. I hate the stuff with a passion - what use is it? None except to slip and slide onto your back every now and then.Everyone decided to go into town to spend their Christmas cash and vouchers in the sales - more fools them - it is freezing out there. I am just trying to summon up any enthusiasm for the fact that I have to go to work tonight and have to drive in this rotten stuff. Scares the pants off me!So all morning I have just sat at the PC answering emails and bookmarking favourite sites - what an exciting life I lead. Will try and get back on tonight when I am in work if the patients allow of course. If not will get on tomorrow after I have slept all day bracing myself for another night of work.I Love Boy's Hall
Why am I doing this?
Why am I doing this? I have no idea but it seemed a good idea at the time. I suppose I should start at the beginning. I live in Kent, England and I am, how should I put it, over 40. I was born in Oswestry, Shropshire and have lived in various places in the UK. I am a nurse and love my job although I work very long hours and seem to be permanently tired.I love reading - no, I guess I am passionate about books and reading - its quite an obsession. I have read since I was a little girl and always have a book in my hand, in my bag, always close by me. I couldn't imagine life without something to read and if I don't have a book handy will read anything that I can that is handy. I love all genres of books except sci-fi or fantasy and am quite anal about reading books by an author by series or in date order. I can't possibly list all of my fav authors - there are just too many. I don't keep to the same genre of book - I tend to swap around all the time. I will always list what I am reading at the time and give a quick synopsis of the book - maybe someone else will like to read it at some time. One of my other passions is the paranormal and I belong to a group who do paranormal investigations. I love doing this and have had some interesting experiences along the way. My interest began when I had my first paranormal experience when I was about 9 or 10 and since then I have collected books on true ghost hauntings and go out with our group as much as I can. I have had many personal experiences of my own and can sense and feel things about a place.I also love travelling and have been to quite a few places abroad - in fact I lived in the States for 8 years which I loved. Cooking is also a passion.I collect bookmarks, cookbooks and recipes, books on true hauntings, DVD's and a few other things.I don't know why I decided to open this blog - but possibly its so that I can write down things that happen in my life and to have a way of writing down my frustrations. So, what's happened today - Boxing Day 2005. Not a lot. Claire, Doug and the children were going to Doug's mum's for the day so it was going to be a nice, quiet, restful day for me. William still has this dreadful chesty cough and cold. Claire called the doctor and I think if she had taken him to the hospital they probably would have kept him in and put him on an IV as he is not taking his bottle feed and he could becoming dehydrated.Anyway, they left at about 11am and I have just been on the PC and watched Mrs Doubtfire for about the 6th million time but watching Pierce Brosnan makes up for how many times I've seen it. It's getting very cold now and snow is forcast (hate it, hate it, hate it!). Had a nice lunch of roast lamb, mashed potato, Yorkshire pudding and peas. Thought I would do a bit of reading but fell asleep (what a shock!).The tribe got back around 6.30pm - peace and quiet reigns no more. They bought back a load of pressies from Doug's parents and said that they were going to be given money as main pressies so that they could go to Disneyland Paris presumably with Doug's family - I know I won't be invited as I am not 'one of his family'. Kayleigh and the boys had a bath and went to bed and then everyone else went which has left me playing on the PC and starting up this blog.Today I started reading 'The Magician's Nephew' by CS Lewis. According to CS Lewis this is the first in the Narnia series and how he recommends they are read. Here is the back cover blurb:'Narnia....where Talking Beasts walk....where a witch waits....where a new world is about to be born.On a daring quest to save a life, two friends are hurled into another world, where an evil sorceress seeks to enslave them. But then the lion Aslan's song weaves itself into the fabric of a new land, a land that will be known as Narnia. And in Narnia, all things are possible....'Well, it is past midnight and I guess I need to get to bed so this is my first entry of hopefully an every day occurance.Signing off,I Love Boy's Hall
